2006 EXHIBITION VENUES AND SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

 
Pittsburgh Filmmakers - 477 Melwood Avenue, Oakland

May 5 - July 2: The gallery space will feature Johnson's most difficult images, which in part depict, in the documentary tradition, ordinary places where hate crimes have occurred.

May 11, 6:00pm: Opening reception with hors d'oeuvres.

May 23: An evening with Lynn Johnson, for Pittsburgh Filmmakers students, Filmmakers artist members, and PCA members only. Limited to 12 participants; $10 includes reception.

June 8, 15, 22, & 29: A film series, including Gentleman's Agreement (1947), starring Gregory Peck.

Thru May and June, dates TBD: The facility will also be used to host community and educator forums.

 

Pittsburgh Center for the Arts - 6300 Fifth Avenue, Shadyside

May 5 - August 20: A special architectural exhibition will be constructed on the grounds using enlarged photographic images and banners of text.

May 5, 5:30-8:00 pm: Opening reception with hors d'oeuvres.

May 24, 6:30 pm: Community conversation, on the role of the arts in creating tolerance, with Lynn Johnson and moderated by Judith Schachter, of CMU's Center for Arts in the Society. Panelists will include: Jessica Gogan, Warhol Museum director of education and Dr. Margaret Pettigrew.

May 25, 7:30 pm: Hate Kills/Love Heals, a reading of short fiction, as part of the American Shorts lecture series, hosted by local personalities.

 

The Children's Museum - 10 Children's Way, Allegheny Square

May 8 - September 3: The gallery will contain an age-appropriate exhibition of Johnson's images. This exhibition includes interactive multimedia exhibits and a photographic chronology of the life and work of Pittsburgh's own Mr. Rogers.

May 9: "That's a Family" workshop for educators.

May 10: "Let's Get Real" workshop for educators.

May 13: "Valuing Differences" workshop for early childhood educators.

May 23 and June 6: Art therapy sessions on handling anger.

Make a peace doll every Wednesday at 1:30 pm.

Workshop using material from the show to address issues of tolerance building and awareness in children. Date and time to be announced.
